Why drink a sports drink? Clean drinking water is essential whatever the activity, but it does not provide energy or sufficient minerals. That is why the primary task of a sports drink is to replenish the fluid reserves lost during activity, while also restoring the energy reserves that are depleted as you move.

A sports drink with optimal absorption has a concentration of 4-8%, i.e. 40-80 g of powder per 1 litre of water. For example, if you take a 500 ml bottle and 40 g of powder, you get an 8% solution; with a 750 ml bottle and 40g of powder, a 5% one. In hot summer weather the drink can be weaker, 4-5%, whereas in winter and in colder weather it can be more concentrated, 6-8% or even up to 10-15%. Everyone has to find out for themselves which concentration, or “strength”, of sports drink suits them.
